POSITION SUMMARY:

Lane Office, a leading New York-based office furniture dealer and interior construction sub-contractor seeks a reliable and precise Staff Accountant to help properly maintain the general ledger function, including maintaining supporting schedules, posting general journal entries, and reconciling the bank accounts. The responsibilities of this role including the periodic financial reporting activities. You will be tasked with auditing financial documents and procedures, and reconciling bank statements. Experience in the construction industry is preferred; past exposure to the industry accounting requirements would be helpful. 

The ideal candidate has a deep knowledge of accounting procedures relevant to the construction industry and a keen eye for detail. Ultimately, the role of the Staff Accountant is to ensure smooth financial operations within our company and comply with all legal requirements.

To be considered for this position you should have 2-4 years relevant experience, understanding of standard industry software and strong communication skills as well as the desire to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Prepare and maintain financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities
• Perform monthly, quarterly and annual accounting activities including reconciliations of bank and credit card accounts
• Manage work-in-process reports and track progress billing 
• Coordinate with tax professionals and government agencies
• Review and process reimbursements
• Adhere to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
• Function in accordance with established standards, procedures and applicable laws
• Constantly update job knowledge

REQUIREMENTS:

• Proven accounting experience; experience in the construction industry is a plus
• Experience with CORE is preferred but not required.
• Familiarity with bookkeeping and basic accounting procedures
• In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
• Competency in MS Office, databases and accounting software 
• Data entry and word processing skills
• Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in accounting
• Positive attitude; self starter
